Château du Val d’Or is located on the most southerly edge of the Saint-Émilion zone on the banks of the river Dordogne. Here, the soil is dominated by gravel, much as it is on the left bank. Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in these conditions. That being said, this early 17th century Château has a high proportion of old vine Merlot planted on clay dominant slopes above the gravelly Cabernet. Cabernet Franc is grown between the two on more sandy soils.

al d’Or are known for producing right bank wines with the style, structure and depth of the fine left bank  Medoc expressions. This 86% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc & 6% Cabernet Sauvignon is matured for 18 months in 50% new French oak barriques with the remainder in old oak and stainless steel.

The nose is fine and expressive, evoking black fruits and roasted almonds. When swirled, the style is delicate with smoked and burnt aromas, enhanced by marzipan. The attack is pure and powerful, with black fruit flavours and a hint of spices (pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon). Balanced and generous; the finish is elegant and long-lasting.
